SYDNEY CATS & DOGS HOME CAFE.
KURNELL, NSW
PROJECT SDCH Cat Cafe
LOCATION 69-83 Sir Joseph Banks Drive Kurnell NSW 2231
DATE 2020
The on-site cat café concept for Sydney Dogs & Cats Home’s new Kurnell site is an ode to their former Carlton home. The use of corrugated metal retains the visage of the original pound/shelter.
As specified by the client, the space echoes the greyscale branding, however, still exudes warmth and dimension through incorporating an array of textured materials and emphasis on natural lighting. The space is inviting yet not overly home-like, with the intention of conveying to guests that the SDCH is intended to be a temporary home for animals.
The use of non-porous materials allows for animals to be able to roam within the spaces and the integration of design elements such as the chandeliers above the point of sales and LED wall lights, use subtle, thin lines to evoke imagery of cat or animal whiskers.
CLIENT BRIEF/ REQUIREMENTS
